DESCRIPTION:

Total stresses when measured in a triaxial cell are more complex in their nature. Numerous parameters may be me measured including back, pressure, pore water pressure and volume change. From these values various engineering properties can be calculated.

Triaxial cell is used to apply total stress. The sample is subjected to and all-round confining pressure. Load is then applied through piston of triaxial cell on a pressure pad on the top of the specimen. In a triaxial cell, sample is confined in a rubber membrane. Brand Triaxial Cell are manufactured from carefully selected material. The cells are manufactured to accommodate different sizes of specimen Universal Triaxial Cell accommodates samples of diameters 38 mm to 100 mm.

 

SPECIFICATIONS:

The cell is useful for testing 38 mm dia. x 76 mm high soil specimen. Transparent Perspex chamber with anvil and loading plunger. The cell is easily opened by releasing four nuts of the tie rods. It is leak proof upto 10kg/cm sq. fluid pressure. An oil plug which can also be used as an air vent is provided for introducing a thin layer of oil over water. This provided effective sealing at the plunger for long duration test. The cell is fitted with four sleeve packed valves of no volume change type on the base. These valves are used for cell pressure, pore water pressure, drainage or back pressure. The loading plunger of the cell has a dial gauge rest. Loading pad made of Perspex for 38mm dia. specimens. Pair of plain discs made of Perspex 38 mm dia mm dia. 6 mm thick. Pair of porous stones 38mm dia. x 6 mm thick. Split sand former for 38mm dia. specimen. Sheath stretcher for 38 mm dia. specimen. One dozen rubber sheaths for 38 mm dia. samples. For synthetic rubber 'O' rings for 38 mm dia. specimen. Proving Rings are used for load measurements and are used in the outfits of a number of Soil/Cement & Bitumen Testing Equipments like Direct Shear Test Apparatus, Triaxial Shear Test Apparatus, C.B.R. Test, Unconfined Test, Marshall Test etc. They are made out of special steel carefully forged to give maximum strength and machined to give highest sensitivity combined with stability to ensure long life and accuracy. When compressive of tensile load is applied within the elastic range, the proving rings get temporarily deformed. This deformation is measured by a sensitive dial gauge fixed co-axially at The center of the proving ring. The dial gauge readings thus obtained versus load applied enable the operator to find out unknown load, just by noting the dial gauge reading for the unknown load. The proving Rings have high elasticity and on removing load they regain their original shape provided they are loaded in their elastic limits. A dial gauge and plunger anvil are mounted on brackets clamped to the ring body. The dial gauge is held perfectly rigid without the remote chance of shifting due to inadvertent shocks or pressure exerted on it. The dial gauge plunger rests on an adjustable anvil. Proving Rings, from 50kg to 1,00,000kg capacity provided ½ inch B.S.F. female threads Loading bosses and a loading ball nipple and steel ball are supplied with each ring. Rings of capacity over 25000kg (or 25 Tonnes) are not thus threaded. Each ring is individually calibrated and supplied with works calibration chart and a carrying case. Calibration Charts from Standard Laboratories for the Proving Rings ordered are also avaiLable at extra cost. The apparatus is designed for conducting in situ vane shear test from the bottom of a bore hole in saturated cohesive deposits for determining their in place shearing resistance.

In a traixial test it pore pressure is not required to be measured the testes can be completed in short times. However where pore pressure measurements are required, the duration of the triaxial test is more as much as 96 hours. In certain cases it may be necessary to keep the cell pressure/constant for a period of several weeks. Conventionally particle size distribution analysis is carried out using pipette and hydrometer methods. Whereas in hydrometer method it is possible to determine particle sized in the range 75 microns, the method involves computation and it is time consuming. The pipette method can be used for determining only the percentage of specific sizes less than 0.02, 0.006 and 0.002 mm as a percentage of total soil sample. The plummet balance method to determine sub sieve particle size for the entire range is very rapid and only manipulation of height of the balance, so that plummet sinks to the right depth is required. The percentage of soil suspension is directly indicated by a pointer over a graduated scale.

DESCRIPTION:

The unit consists of two graduated burettes of 50ml. x 0.2ml. capacity enclosed tin two Perspex tubes sealed by two end caps. The manifold with valves enable the flow of fluid in the burettes to be reversed when the paraffin interfaces reach their limits in the burettes, the maximum capacity of measurement being only limited by the capacity of the mercury pots.

The two burettes, enable the reduction in error in meniscus reading due to reversal of flow, the average of the two burettes being always taken as the volume change reading.


SPECIFICATIONS:

 

When conducting triaxial tests on soil samples, it is observed that due to internal pressure, the cell expands, soil specimen consolidates resulting in the change of volume change Gauge is therefore devised to accurately measure volume changes.

This is measured by observing the quantity of water entering or leaving the cell as the cell pressure and axial load are changed it is achieved by the displacement of free surface between the water supplied to the cell and another fluid (Paraffin of kerosene).

A dye is added to the paraffin for clear demarcation of the interface.

The unit consist of a glass graduated tube of the appropriate capacity graduated to parts of a ml. enclosed in a perpex tube sealed by two end caps.

The unit is fitted with manifolds and valves which enable it to be sued with the triaxial cell and the constant pressure (Mercury controls) system.

The cell pressure can either be directly applied to the cell from the constant pressure system or through the volume change gauge.

The graduated glass tube is not subjected to any difference in pressure and its inside is coated with a layer of silicon water repellent to reduce the error in meniscus.

There is an arrangement for filling the unit with water and paraffin and a drainage valve is provided in the lower end cap.

The whole assembly is mounted on a panel suitable for wall mounting.

The unit is supplied complete with a pressure hose with end couplings and a packet of dye.
