The column is made of stainless steel material packed with borosilicate glass rasching rings. An electrically heated reboiler is installed at the bottom of the column. The bottom product is collected in the tank. The vapours form the top of column are condensed in the shell and tube type condenser by circulating cooling water, supplied by laboratory overhead tank. The condensate is divided into reflux and distillate by automatic reflux divider and r/d ratio can be varied. Reflux is fed back to the column and distillate is received in a receiving tank. The complete column is insulated for minimizing the heat loss. Instrumentation is provided for pressure & temp. Measurement wherever necessary.

  • To estimate the batch distillation curves for a binary system and verify the binary batch distillation equation for a known packed height

That have different magnetic at tractability, may be separated by passing them through a magnetic field. Most often, magnetic separation techniques are used to remove iron, steel or magnetic iron oxide from materials low in magnetic at tractability. These devices operate in either a continuous or a cyclic manner. Continuous devices usually have a belt which moves over the lifting magnetic poles to carry the magnetize partials into a region of low or zero magnetic field, where they are released. The present set-up is of in-line lifting magnet type. The set-up consists of two belts moving separately in opposite direction at slow speed. Feed through a vibrating hopper is conveyed over first belt and allowed to pass near the second belt, which is under magnetic field. The magnetic field is generated by permanent magnet kept in a box. Magnetically inert material drops off the belt in a normal manner. Magnetic material is held on the belt, however, and finally drops off the belt as it leaves the magnetic field. Both the belts are fitted on the pullies and derived by an electric motor coupled with a reduction gearbox.

The setup consists of a heater sandwiched between two sets of slabs. Three types of slabs are provided on either sides of heater, which forms a composite structure. A small hand press frame is provided to ensure the perfect contact between the slabs. A variac is provided for varying the input to the heater. Digital voltmeter and digital ammeter display the heat input. Heat produced by heater flows axially on both the sides. Temperature sensors are embedded at the interfaces of slabs to determine the temperature gradient. The experiment can be conducted at various values of heat input and calculation can be made accordingly.

In an ideal CSTR (i.e. an ideal steady state flow reactor) the contents in reactor, This set-up is used to study a non-catalytic homogeneous second order liquid phase reaction under ambient condition. An isothermal semi-batch reactor is a semi-closed system with one input stream. It is operated under conditions like Isothermal (Temperature of Reaction Mass remains constant) and perfectly mixed (composition of reaction mixture is uniform throughout). This set-up is used to study a non-catalytic homogeneous reaction under isothermal condition. The set up consists of a Reactor fitted in a constant temperature water bath. Before starting the reaction the reactor is charged with measured quantity of one reactant. From a feed tank another reactant is fed to the reactor. Using a sampling pipette samples can be taken out for analysis after fixed interval. Rotameter is provided to measure the flow of Chemicals. The compressed air is used for circulation of feed. One stirrer is fitted for mixing the reactants in reactor and other is fitted in water bath to keep the uniform temperature throughout in the bath. The temperature of bath can be maintained from ambient to 70C with the help of Digital Temperature indicator Cum Controller. Pressure Regulator, Pressure Gauge and Safety Valve are fitted in the compressed air line.

Axial diffusion and dispersion of fluid in packed beds are important for design and operation of separation equipment and Chemicals reactors. The tracer technique, the most widely used method for the study of axial dispersion. In stimulus response experimentation, we perturb the system using pulse input of tracer and then see how the system reacts or responds to this stimulus. The analysis of the response gives the desired information about the system.The setup consists of a glass column packed with Rasching Rings and one feed tank. Water is fed to the reactor through liquid distributor, fitted at the bottom of the column. Rotameter is provided to measure the flow of water. The flow rate can be adjusted by operating the needle valve provided on Rotameter. For understanding the R.T.D. characteristics, a special arrangement to inject tracer into the lower end of reactor, using a syringe, is provided. Samples can be taken periodically from the top outlet of reactor. Pressure Regulator & Pressure Gauge are fitted in the compressed air line.
