This is a dryer in which moisture removal takes place by fluidization of solids particles by hot air. The set-up fitted with a specially designed, vertical glass column. The lower portion of the column is filled with fluidizing material. The material is supported on the screen mesh held between two flanges. Air from a compressor is heated in the heater box and passed through the column. Flow control and by-pass valve are fitted to regulate the airflow. At the top outlet of column a cyclone is provided tocollect any solid particles taken out by the air stream.

DESCRIPTION:

The column is made of Stainless Steel with seven plates for mounting the bubble caps. Each plate is provided with one bubble cap. An electrically heated reboiler is installed at the bottom of the column. The bottom product is collected in the tank. The vapours form the top of column are condensed in the shell and tube type condenser by cooling water supplied by laboratory overhead tank. The condensate is divided into reflux and distillate by automatic reflux divider and R/D Ratio can be varied. Reflux is fed back to the column and distillate is received in a receiving tank. The complete column is insulated for minimizing the heat loss. Instrumentation provided for pressure & temp. measurement wherever necessary.

EXPERIMENTATION:

Ø  To estimate the batch distillation curves for a binary system and verify the binary batch distillation equation for a known number of theoretical plates.

Ø  To operate the column under total reflux condition and estimate the minimum number of theoretical plates required

DESCRIPTION:

This setup is designed to study the performance characteristics of solvent extraction of a particular component from a packed bed of solid material. The apparatus allows study of such systems as water/inorganic salts, water/sugar bed, methylene chloride/vegetable oil etc. The glass column is fitted with SS mesh to support the solid material. The solvent is introduced near the bottom of the column and it flows upward counter-currently to the solids. A pump supplies the solvent and flow rate is monitored by means of a Rotameter. Solvent feed tank is kept in a bath fitted with heater and digital temperature controller is used to maintain the constant temperature.

DESCRIPTION:
The basic data of any distillation problem are the equilibrium between the liquid and vapours phases of the system subjected to distillation. Hence is of great importance to study the vapourliquid equilibrium. The set-up consists of distillation still with a heating element. That have different magnetic at tractability, may be separated by passing them through a magnetic field. Most often, magnetic separation techniques are used to remove iron, steel or magnetic iron oxide from materials low in magnetic at tractability. These devices operate in either a continuous or a cyclic manner. Continuous devices usually have a belt which moves over the lifting magnetic poles to carry the magnetize partials into a region of low or zero magnetic field, where they are released. The present set-up is of in-line lifting magnet type. The set-up consists of two belts moving separately in opposite direction at slow speed. Feed through a vibrating hopper is conveyed over first belt and allowed to pass near the second belt, which is under magnetic field. The magnetic field is generated by permanent magnet kept in a box. Magnetically inert material drops off the belt in a normal manner. Magnetic material is held on the belt, however, and finally drops off the belt as it leaves the magnetic field. Both the belts are fitted on the pullies and derived by an electric motor coupled with a reduction gearbox.
