An isothermal semi-batch reactor is a semi-closed system with one input stream. It is operated under conditions like Isothermal (Temperature of Reaction Mass remains constant) and perfectly mixed (composition of reaction mixture is uniform throughout). This set-up is used to study a non-catalytic homogeneous reaction under isothermal condition. The set up consists of a Reactor fitted in a constant temperature water bath. Before starting the reaction the reactor is charged with measured quantity of one reactant. From a feed tank another reactant is fed to the reactor. Using a sampling pipette samples can be taken out for analysis after fixed interval. Rotameter is provided to measure the flow of Chemicals. The compressed air is used for circulation of feed. One stirrer is fitted for mixing the reactants in reactor and other is fitted in water bath to keep the uniform temperature throughout in the bath. The temperature of bath can be maintained from ambient to 70C with the help of Digital Temperature indicator Cum Controller. Pressure Regulator, Pressure Gauge and Safety Valve are fitted in the compressed air line.

The strength of adhesion between finish film and the leather surface it is applied on may be found either by pressing a pressure sensitive adhesive tape over it and peeling it off, or by separating the finish film from leather and finding the force needed to separate it further. The first method is empirical in nature and cannot be reproduced accurately as the adhesion strength of various adhesive tapes and their bonding with the finish surface cannot be standardized. Hence the second method Is generally used for this determination. In this method, a smooth metallic specimen mounting strip is pasted onto the finish film at right angle to the axis of the test specimen with the help of a suitable adhesive.

After the bond is set, the excess adhesive is cleared off and the mounting strip held in a vertical frame. The end of the test specimen is separating from the finish film and a pan containing dead weights suspended from it.

The force needed to cause the finish film layer to separate further is determined by adding dead weights on the pan till the separation of the film from the leather takes place.

One of the methods for determination of consistency of production of plastic sheets is with the help of the horizontal burning characteristics test.
